Conway man accused of serial sexual assault in cold case denied bond for third time

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WBTW) — Bond was denied by a judge for the third time Tuesday afternoon for a Conway man charged with serial sexual assault in cold case.

Randy Earl Barnhill is accused of multiple counts of sexual assault between 2000 and 2006, according to police. His charges include criminal sexual conduct in the first degree, kidnapping, assault of a high and aggravated nature, burglary in the first and second degrees and exposure of private parts in a lewd and lascivious manner.

Barnhill’s lawyer wanted bail because he had gone a long time without a court date, with Barnhill’s bond was last denied in May 2023. They also claimed that he has not been convicted and that other suspects accused of crimes such as murder are making bail on a daily basis.

No court date has been set for Barnhill, although a prosecutor said Tuesday that one is close.

Barnhill has a criminal record in South Carolina dating back to 1989, according to a South Carolina Division of Law Enforcement background check obtained by News13. In August 1989, he was convicted of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. He received a seven-year sentence, suspended to four years of probation.
