Man accused of headbutting Somerset Co. sheriff’s deputies following drug conviction

Authorities in Somerset County say a local drug dealer is facing additional charges after allegedly assaulting a sheriff and two deputies following his recent conviction.

Investigators say Nicholas St. Clair, 39, was one of two men convicted of drug charges on October 18 following a four-day trial in Somerset County Court.

Officials say that after learning he was going to prison, St. Clair is accused of “violently resisting” custody, leading to an alleged “charge” inside the courtroom.

Authorities say the sheriff and two deputies were injured in the ensuing fight, which included breaking a courtroom table.

Officials say St. Clair then allegedly tried to “jump” on the sheriff in an attempt to headbutt him.

“I propose to remove Mr. St. Clair for years as punishment for drug trafficking in this county, as I said I would do as your district attorney. I am grateful for the quick action of our Sheriff’s Department and I stand by this man. Clearly, this man is a danger to society and I will do everything in my power to make sure he is held accountable for his crimes,” said District Attorney Molly Metzgar.

Conformable online court recordsSt. Clair is charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault, as well as terroristic threats and institutional vandalism.

He is being held at the Somerset County Jail on $250,000 bond.
