Customs officials today (October 27) found 60 gold bars, weighing 6.96 kg and worth Tk 7.86 million, from under the seat of a plane at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Acting on a tip-off, officials from the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) conducted a search on a US-owned Bangla Airlines plane that arrived in Dhaka from Bangkok, Thailand this afternoon, the CIID said in a press release.

During the search, two packages wrapped in gray and black scotch tape were observed on a life jacket placed under a seat.

The two packages were opened in the presence of various agencies on duty at the airport and 60 pieces of gold bars were found, each piece weighing 116 grams, the statement said.

The seized gold bars have been deposited in the warehouse at Dhaka Custom House to take necessary legal action, the statement said.
