A Fort Worth the security guard was the person who initially identified one of the most wanted fugitives in Texas, leading to his arrest.

Seth Altman was arrested Friday night at Union Gospel Mission in Fort Worth.

Altman, 33, had been on the run for three weeks after allegedly shooting a police officer in Memphis, Texas, southeast of Amarillo.

Much of Texas was awoken by a blue alert Friday morning, leaving many to wonder what is a blue alert?

A security guard at Union Gospel Mission recognized Altman from the alert when he checked in and called police.

“That’s how he was able to say, okay, this gentleman might be wanted for a crime in another city,” Fort Worth Police Officer Tracy Carter said.

Officers were able to arrest Altman without incident.

“He actually woke up with the officers, because of the crime, he said, hey, we’re going to handcuff you for our safety and your safety, and he said fine. They were able to take him to the patrol car,” Carter said . .

According to Texas DPS, Altman shot the police chief in Memphis, Texas on October 3rd.

The chief was serving a warrant for Altman, who was wanted for theft. He allegedly shot the police chief several times and fled.

The police chief was taken to hospital and released a few days later.

“We are all family. Whether they’re with the FWPD or our city or state departments, they help us, too. If we know we can do something to help bring closure, to bring someone to justice who has committed a crime. , we’re committed to doing that,” Carter said.

Altman was on the run for three weeks.

During that time, the state and the FBI offered a $15,000 reward for any information leading to his arrest.

He was also listed on the state’s top 10 most wanted fugitives.

“Thank you to that security guard that worked that day and the officers that responded and everyone that was involved in this apprehension,” Carter said.

Altman is currently in the Tarrant County Jail waiting to be taken back to Hall County to be charged with attempted capital murder.

His bond is currently set at $1 million.
