Craig throws three first-half TDs to lead Harvard past Princeton

Jaden Craig had Harvard in control from the start.

Dealing three first-half touchdowns and completing 25 of 32 passes for 306 yards, the junior spread the ball around as three receivers amassed at least 80 yards in a 45-13 Ivy League victory over Princeton Saturday at Harvard Stadium. It was the first time since 2016 that the Crimson (5-1, 2-1 Ivy) defeated the Tigers (2-4, 1-2).

“I’ve been so happy for our guys because they really, really wanted this one,” said coach Andrew Aurich, who previously played and coached at Princeton. “The focus, the energy, the hard work they put in this week, I’m not surprised by this outcome, I fully expected it.”

Senior receiver Kaedyn Odermann was first into the end zone for the Crimson, making a stunning grab over his head in the front left corner.

Junior Cooper Barkate (6 receptions, 99 yards, 2 TDs) extended the lead with a 14-yard grab, and sophomore Seamus Gilmartin (four receptions, 108 yards) added a 4-yard touchdown connection. Senior Scott Woods II added 81 yards on 10 catches.

“It’s all starting to come together,” said Craig. “Still some plays we left out there, but we’re doing a good job. Each week we’re getting better, that’s all that matters.”

Senior Charles DePrima ran for a 3-yard TD to give the Crimson a 31-13 lead early in the fourth quarter. On his only pass attempt, DePrima connected with Barkate for a 39-yard touchdown over the middle. DePrima finished with four carries for 56 yards and two catches for 17 yards.

Senior Malik Frederick added a 1-yard touchdown plunge with 3:12 remaining.

“Nine months ago when I decided to come back for a fifth year, I took out my calendar and I circled this game,” said defensive tackle Tyler Huenemann. “Putting all three phases together today, specifically on defense, it felt great.”
