Two Los Angeles murder suspects arrested in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Two people wanted for an alleged murder in Los Angeles, California were safely taken into custody in Salt Lake City on Thursday morning, October 24th.

Jasani Johnson, 21, and Wynter Smith, 20, were booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of motor vehicle theft and obstruction of justice in a felony or first degree.

Both Johnson and Smith were wanted on charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated murder. The Salt Lake City Police Department has not released details about the alleged killing in California. ABC4 is working to learn more and will update this story if more information becomes available.

Ogden school resource officer accused of sexually exploiting a minor

On Oct. 24, just after 2 a.m., the Salt Lake City Police Department received information about a stolen car in Los Angeles registering on license plate reader technology. Officers began checking the last known location of the car and found the suspects inside the car parked near 400 West and 600 North.

Officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop and arrested Johnson and Smith without incident.

The Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office are in the process of obtaining arrest warrants for both suspects so they can be transported back to California.

Allegations are just allegations. All persons arrested are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
