No, Kamala Harris didn’t say she won’t accept the 2024 election results

With less than two weeks until Election Day, concerns are growing about whether candidates will accept the results. A viral post claims that Vice President Kamala Harris said she will not accept the result of the 2024 presidential election and has lawyers who would overturn it.

“In case you missed it! Kamala Harris sat down for an interview with @NBCNews last night where she proclaimed that she will not accept the outcome of the election and has a team of lawyers ready to overturn it.” October 23 post on Instagram said. The post came a day after Harris’ interview with NBC News’ Hallie Jackson in Washington, DC

The Instagram post was flagged as part of Meta’s efforts to combat fake news and misinformation in its news feed. (Read more about our partnership with Metawhich owns Facebook, Threads and Instagram.)

I reviewed full transcript of the interview and found no evidence that Harris said or implied that he would not accept the results.

Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate, was asked about a scenario in which former President Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, again declares victory on election night as votes are still being counted. trump card falsely claimed to have won the 2020 presidential election while the votes in many states were still to be counted; After four years, he still hasn’t accepted defeat.

Harris told Jackson she was focused on the present and her campaign efforts.

“We have two weeks to go and I’m very well grounded at the moment with the pregnancy I have,” she said.

As for what might happen on election night if Trump were to prematurely declare victory, Harris said, “We’re going to deal with election night and the days ahead as they come, and we have the resources and the expertise and we’re focusing on that too.”

When Jackson asked Harris if he had teams ready to deal with post-election disputes, Harris said, “Of course.” But having a team of election lawyers is not evidence of a plot to overturn an election.

Both sides have been involved in several disputes so far. A recent one Bloomberg Law Analysis found more than 165 election lawsuits nationwide with Republicans and GOP-affiliated groups responsible for 55% of the files submitted.

We asked the Harris campaign how many lawyers it has and under what circumstances they will be used in post-election disputes. A campaign spokesman did not respond to that question or say how many lawsuits the campaign was involved in. The spokesperson referred us to the NBC News transcript.

Harris did not say she would not accept the outcome of the 2024 election. During the campaign, she often highlighted Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election as part of her pitch to American voters.

We rate this claim that Harris said he would not accept the outcome of the election as False.
