Fox News attacks Kamala Harris who called Trump a fascist

Fox News was performatively outraged by the vice president Kamala Harris calling the former president Donald Trump “fascist” after the general’s audio broadcast John Kelly — Trump’s former chief of staff — explaining exactly why he thinks Trump is a fascist.

It’s been a theme on nearly every Fox News show since Harris held a news conference, a clip of which aired before a outnumbered segment hosted by Trump’s former press secretary Kayleigh McEnany.

Viewers were shown a clip of Harris saying: “And it’s clearly from John Kelly wORDS that Donald Trump is someone who, I quote, certainly fits the broad definition of a fascist who swore to be a dictator on day one and vowed to use the military as his personal militia to carry out his personal and political vendettas.”

What were John Kelly’s words? Former DHS secretary and decorated Marine general said THE New York Times Michael Schmidt:

Well, looking at the definition of fascism: it is an authoritarian, ultra-nationalist far-right political ideology and movement characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forced suppression of opposition, belief in a natural social hierarchy. So certainly, in my experience, these are the kinds of things that he thinks would work better in terms of running America.

But McEnany instead blamed the “liberal media” for going all in, pointing to a series of headlines reporting on what Kelly said. “You see it there. Check out this spate of recent headlines that paint Trump as, quote, fascist, authoritarian, even Hitler-loving,” she said. “Wow. And these are just a few of them.”

Emily Compagna insulted the vice president, saying, “I don’t think Kamala Harris could define fascism.” He then wryly offered, “I don’t think they could define the difference between disinformation or disinformation.” Speaking of misinformation…

The merits of labeling political rivals “fascists” is certainly a topic worthy of cable news programming. And criticism of Harris using this language is a fair topic of debate. The claim that Kamala Harris and the Democrats are alone in this allegedly dangerous and irresponsible rhetoric exposed in the segment above is completely embarrassing to everyone involved.

Why? Because long before Vice President Harris proclaimed his belief that Trump was engaging in some level of fascism? Trump was making the exact same claim about Harris. We know this because CNN News Night recalled viewers of Trump’s overheated rhetoric used against his opponents in a montage that aired a month ago:

In this segment above, CNN host Abby Phillips aired clips of former President Trump going all anti-fascist in condemning his rivals, but not after she aired a clip of Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance chiding the democrats.

“Look, we can disagree with each other,” Vance said in September. “We can debate each other. But we cannot tell the American people that a candidate is a fascist and, if elected, will be the end of American democracy.”

Phillip noted a problem with Vance’s remarks. “Except here’s Vance’s actual running mate saying exactly that,” she said before playing snippets of Trump at various rallies:

It is a choice between communism and freedom.

This is communist, this is Marxist, this is fascist.

There is a radical left, Marxist, communist, fascist.

She is a Marxist. She’s a fascist.

Comrade Kamala Harris.

If Comrade Kamala Harris has four more years, you’ll be living in (a) full-blown banana republic ruled by anarchy and tyranny… They’re scumbags. They are scumbags and they want to bring down our country. They are absolute garbage.

On January 6, 2021, Trump infamously told rally attendees in Washington, DC that if Congress certified Biden’s election victory that day, America as they knew it would be over. While the former president said to march on the Capitol “peacefully,” he and said“And if you don’t fight like hell, you won’t have a country,” as he told the crowd, “You’ve got to show strength.”
