Nick Nurse reveals possible rest plans for 76ers-Celtics

Nick Nurse reveals possible rest plans for 76ers-Celtics

Between Friday and Saturday night, the Philadelphia 76ers don’t have much free time.

On Friday, the team went head-to-head with the Minnesota Timberwolves in Iowa for their second preseason matchup. On Saturday night, they will visit the Boston Celtics less than 24 hours after giving the Timberwolves a heads up.

Considering it’s the preseason, expect a lack of veterans in Saturday’s game.

When 76ers head coach Nick Nurse addresses the media before Friday night’s game, the head coach revealed a possible rest plan for unnamed draftees.

According to Wolves Radio’s Alan Horton, Nurse suggested that “most of the vets” playing in Philly’s Friday night game would be rested on Saturday.

It’s easy to assume players like Paul George and Tyrese Maxey will have an off night. Since the preseason began, George has been on a rest plan, which included him missing the team’s preseason opener against the New Zealand Breakers.

While Maxey has played in both matchups thus far, the young veteran could use a night off as he is in for a long season with frequent nights of heavy minutes.

Joel Embiid has yet to make his preseason debut with the Sixers. After an injury-riddled 2023-2024 and a summer Olympic run, the Sixers are throwing their star big man back into the mix. On Friday, he was not with the Iowa team. While Nurse would not confirm or deny whether or not Embiid would join the road trip, it appears unlikely that the star big man will play in Boston on Saturday.

Some other candidates include Kelly Oubre, Andre Drummond, Caleb Martin, Kyle Lowry and Eric Gordon.

The Sixers have yet to reveal their inactives, but Saturday’s game in Boston could serve as a good opportunity for the younger reserves to garner plenty of playing time while the roster hopefuls get a chance to showcase themselves as they struggle. for a place
