Southern Water has been carrying out utility repair and maintenance work since Monday 16 September.

On the company’s website, it warned residents to expect low pressure or no water.

A spokesman added: “Following a repair to a pipe in Dolphin Road, the water main burst again while the pipe was being recharged.

“Due to the location close to the existing repair site, we have had to close both lanes of the road while we carry out the full repairs.

“Our teams are on site to locate the exact position of the new break and we will get to work as soon as possible.

“We will keep customers informed of progress and regret the disruption caused.”

Due to previous works, traffic lights had been installed on the road and it is expected to return to normal tomorrow.

However, this morning drivers noticed that it had been closed and there were barriers.

One local warned others: “Be prepared for Dolphin Road to be completely closed today.

“Not only are there works that no one is working on, but now the road has risen and water is gushing out onto the road.”
