Latest Middle East: Iran’s Supreme Leader Responds to Israeli Attacks; dozens injured after a truck hit a bus stop | World News

Welcome back to our live coverage of developments in the Middle East.

Gaza’s Health Ministry, run by Hamas, says Israeli strikes on the northern town of Beit Lahiya in the past have killed at least 22 people – more on that in a moment.

We’ll also bring you the latest on the fallout from Israel’s attacks on Iran’s military sites as the focus shifts to how Tehran will respond – if at all.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghci suggested a response was not out of the question in a social media post.

He said: “We fully reserve the right to respond appropriately to this aggression, which cannot be separated from Israel’s genocide in Gaza and bloodshed in Lebanon.”

The Israeli military said its strikes were in response to “months of continuous attacks by the Iranian regime against the State of Israel.”

Satellite images appear to show that the Israeli attack targeted buildings used to mix fuel for ballistic missiles in Iran, according to the Reuters news agency.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisted they chose targets in Iran based on their own interests and not on “American dictates”, while Joe Biden said he hoped Israel’s strikes would end a cycle of escalation between the two sides.
