Tensor G5 leak confirms Google Pixel 10 core specs

The basic specifications of the upcoming Google Tensor G5 chipset have been leaked. They indicate that Google could take a cautious approach to balancing performance and power efficiency, and perhaps allow high-resolution gaming.

Google Tensor G5 SoC Specifications and Features

Google recently launched the Pixel 9 series. These flagship smartphones feature the Tensor G4 chipset, which is designed in collaboration with other companies. The next generation of Tensor chips, especially the Tensor G5 and Tensor G6, would be completely designed by Google and manufactured by TSMC.

according to Android Authorityseveral details about the specifications of the Google Tensor G5 have been leaked from Google’s Tensor Chips division. Google seems to stick to the basics when it comes to designing chips.

The Tensor G4 chipset, which powers the Pixel 9 series of smartphones, has a 1+3+4 configuration, where there is a single main performance core, three performance cores and the remaining four are efficiency cores.

The Google Tensor G5 SoC, codenamed Laguna, will feature a 1+5+2 CPU cluster. Specifically, this chipset would have a single main performance core and five performance cores, with the remaining two being efficiency cores.

Google appears to be using five Cortex-A725 CPU cores for performance. The two Cortex-A520 CPU cores are meant for routine operations as they are efficiency cores.

Will the Pixel 10 smartphone have a powerful GPU?

Google has been using Arm Mali GPUs for all of its past Tensor chips. Incidentally, Arm Mali GPUs power a large number of Android smartphones. They are available in various performance levels and are optimized for Android.

For the Tensor G5, Google has integrated a GPU from Imagination Technologies (IMG). The company has internally labeled the GPU as DXT-48-1536. It seems to be a powerful GPU, running at 1.1GHz.

Due to the IMG GPU, the Google Pixel 10 series smartphones should have ray tracing support, which is a first for any Pixel device, as well as a Tensor chipset. The upcoming Pixel smartphone would also support GPU virtualization, which enables accelerated graphics in a virtual machine. These specs suggest that the Google Pixel 10 series devices could support high-resolution gaming.
