The 38-year-old said the church leader’s “steadfast prayers alongside Andrew and the preaching of God’s words to our broken hearts have sustained our souls this past week”.

Timothy Hamilton added: “It hurts so much and we miss Andrew more than words can express. But we do not weep like those who have no hope. We rejoice in the sure hope of the glory of God, in the name from whom Andrew was baptized, whose precious blood cleansed Andrew and made him a son and heir of heaven.”

Bethany Hamilton, 34, also shared her own tribute.

“The Lord has received my sweet nephew Andrew into his beautiful care,” the athlete wrote on his Instagram. “Although my family and I will miss him dearly, we trust that his joy is filled with Jesus.”

She continued, “Here is a prayer of faith that my brother and our whole family prayed last week. This prayer paints an incredible picture of what it is to have faith. Faith is trusting that God’s will for the our life is bigger than ours, thank you all for your love, prayers and support during this difficult time.”

Bethany Hamilton, a mother of four who documented her experience surviving a 2003 shark attack that cost her her left arm in a memoir and the 2011 film “Soul Surfer,” had aired the week past a public plea to contact a medical expert on drowning injuries to try to help Andrew after he was hospitalized in Oahu, Hawaii.

A fundraising page set up for the family had noted that on Oct. 11, “Andrew collapsed with a fever and vomited. He was in the bathtub soaking in 6 inches of Epsom salt water; just 15 feet from the kitchen and living room.

The message continued: “He was found unconscious, which is puzzling as he is the strongest of his 5 siblings at this age and an amazing swimmer, even in the open ocean. He started chest compressions , had a slight heartbeat. He spent several hours at the Wilcox hospital before being medically evacuated to Oahu.”

The family later updated the page to note that Andrew Hamilton had suffered kidney damage, swelling on the brain and was also on a ventilator.

After his death, Bethany and Timothy Hamilton’s older brother Noah Hamilton, 42, also shared a tribute to the boy, sharing that he had gone surfing with him two days before his accident d drowning

“The only solo time I got to play with him,” he wrote on Facebook. “I have played with his 4 older brothers. We had a great time. On our last wave I threw him off the board and he swam to shore through the waves and current that sucked him out to sea . I will keep this memory.”

Noah Hamilton continued: “He was a strong kid. We’ll never know how he got into trouble in a bathroom with 6 inches of water. But what we do know is that he’s in heaven singing with the angels, resting in his heaven . daddy’s loving arms, I love you Andrew.”
