Oscar, police dog who played a key role in the Antilia bomb scare, retires from the force

Oscar, the police dog that detected explosives in a car parked near Antilia, the south Mumbai home of billionaire industrialist Mukesh Ambani in 2021, has been retired from service along with his canine companion Mylo, an official said Thursday.

Both canines were part of the force for 10 years and were given a dignified farewell on Wednesday at a function attended by several officers, including Additional Commissioner of Police (Protection and Security) Vinit Sahoo.

“Oscar joined the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) of the Mumbai Police in 2014. Oscar was among the 12 canines of the BDDS and his duties included foiling bomb threats and calls as well as security VIP. Jelly bars were spotted in a car parked near Mukesh Ambani’s house in Malabar Hill on February 25, 2021,” the official said.

Mylo performed tasks like VIP security, checking vital facilities, responding to threat calls, checking suspicious bags, etc., he added.

“As a thank you for their services, we have arranged for air conditioning in the foster home where the two canines will stay and we have also provided an AC vehicle for their transportation. We have also created a ‘wall of fame’ to honor- los. stellar service,” another official said.
