Pakistan vs England | Is Harry Brook’s love affair with Pakistan over? Star batsman fails in Rawalpindi Test

Pakistan vs England | Is Harry Brook’s love affair with Pakistan over? Star batsman fails in Rawalpindi Test

Harry Brook’s purple patch in Pakistan looks to be coming to an end. After dominating Pakistan’s bowlers with the bat in their first four Tests in the Asian nation, Brook has been struggling to get used to spin-friendly conditions in the last two Tests between the two teams. On Thursday, October 24, Brook was dismissed for just 5 in the first session on Day 1 of the second Test in Rawalpindi.

Harry Brook was dismissed by Sajid Khan as he tried to get out of trouble towards the end of the first session. Brook missed the ball completely and was dropped as the ball hit the leg stump. Sajid was thrilled when Pakistan saw the back of Brook, who had tormented them in Rawalpindi two years ago. Harry Brook scored 153 and 87 in Rawalpindi in 2022. He followed it up with 9 and 108 in the second Test of the series and finished with success, scoring 111 in Karachi as England won the series 3-0.

Pakistan vs England 2nd Test Day 1 Updates

Harry Brook started the 2024 tour of Pakistan with a sensational triple hundred on a flat ground in Multan. Ever since Pakistan turned to spinner-friendly pitches, Brook has struggled to put bat to ball. Brook faced 322 balls for his 314 in the first Test at Multan. Since the start of the second Test, he has only managed to face 40 balls in three innings.

England once again struggled to survive as the Rawalpindi pitch started helping the spinners as early as the first session on Day 1. Pakistan bowled 30 balls in the first session and all of them were played between two spinners – Sajid Khan and Noman Ali.

England got off to a good start with their openers Zak Crawley (29) and Ben Duckett (52) putting on a partnership of 56 runs. However, the batting unit collapsed after the opening partnership, losing as many as five wickets for just 42 runs. Ollie Pope’s bad run continued as he was dismissed for 3, while Joe Root fell to Sajid Khan for 5.

Ben Stokes and the wicketkeeper batsman were holding strong as England headed to Lunch at 110 for 5.

England won the first Test by an innings even after Pakistan posted 550 in the first innings on a flat ground in Multan. Pakistan reused the pitch for the second Test and found success as their spinners Sajid Khan and Noman Ali shared 20 wickets between them.

Having leveled the series 1-1, Pakistan started the third Test with a bang, picking up as many as five wickets in the first session. However, the conditions will not be easy for the Pakistani batsmen on a pitch that has offered enough assistance to the spinners on the first day. England picked three spinners, including leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed in the XI.
