Mechanic hit by Scion xD in his own garage

  • A mechanic cheated death after being hit by a car while working in a garage.
  • The technician was hit by a Scion xD that rammed him into a giant tool cabinet when his brakes appeared to fail.

A professional mechanic avoided being sent to the great human scrapheap of heaven when he was mowed down in an accident in his own garage by a customer’s car.

CCTV footage from inside the multi-lane workshop opens with a mechanic preparing to receive a car on the lift. The shutter door is up, the elevator is in the down position, and all he has to do is move one of the sliding cross jacks further back on the main elevator.

But while he’s still pulling the jack, a Scion xD hatchback suddenly enters stage left, and we can immediately see that he’s going too fast. It bounces down the ramp that leads to the elevator and moves so quickly that by the time the mechanic realizes what’s happening, it’s only a step or so away from the front of the car.

He jumps to his feet, instinctively putting his arms in front of him, but it’s clear he doesn’t stand a chance, even with a car as light as the xD. The impact with the car has him knocked back like Marty McFly plugging his guitar into the faulty amp in Doc Brown’s house and thrown right past the end of the elevator and into a huge closet metal tools

But that’s not the end of his troubles because the car keeps moving and also crashes into the tool cabinet in the garage, leaving the mechanic nowhere to be found. The driver does not back up, perhaps out of panic or because he thinks it will hurt more, and instead jumps out of the car, shouting ‘Sam! Sam!”

The driver obviously knows the mechanic, and he’s also wearing white gloves, so it seems clear that he’s also a garage worker and not just a customer who mixed up the pedals. The Scion could have had brake failure and maybe the brakes were already inoperable and no one told the driver. But whatever the problem, it’s going too fast.

We don’t see the aftermath, but the person who posted the footage on Twitter, who claims to be related to someone who worked at the shop, says the mechanic escaped without serious injuries.
