Deirdre Sanders has bravely updated fans about her ongoing battle with breast cancer.

The beloved agony aunt recently revealed that her breast cancer had made an unwelcome return. Today, she thanked the This Morning set for conducting the phone-in segment and spoke about her current health, prompted by presenters Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard.

Deirdre shared: “I’m doing really well. I feel a bit fake because I don’t look too bad. I had brilliant surgery and treatment on the NHS. I don’t even have to take painkillers. .

“I will find out the results in a couple of weeks to see if they got it all. 1 in 4 lumpectomies have to be done more surgically but I have it all crossed and was told it was very small. a small cancer , so I’m optimistic.”

Earlier this month, Deirdre opened up about her second bout with cancer on This Morning, saying: “Unfortunately I have to have a lumpectomy followed by radiotherapy. I feel lucky it was caught early and the treatment is happening very quickly. This is all on the NHS so I think it could be a lot worse.

“To be honest, the symptoms I had the first time were a coincidence and not actually a symptom of cancer as it turns out. An efficient GP put me on the cancer track and I got checked up and treated very fast. I felt good, I didn’t feel tired or run.”

She went on to explain: “I couldn’t feel anything, it’s very small, so there’s nothing to feel. It’s only from the mammogram that showed it. I had an ultrasound and a biopsy and it revealed it was cancer.” .

Currently, NHS policy is to stop routine mammograms for women over 70; however, they remain available upon request. Deirdre was shocked to learn she had cancer once again and made a plea to the over-70s: “My big point about this is that in the NHS system, I’m not criticizing it, the call for mammograms is ‘stop when you’re 70.

“I was surprised. It felt good. I was very surprised, I didn’t expect it at all,” she explained, before emphasizing her message to the other women: “I was in a cohort of women who were missed , and we haven’t been called since ’67, so I didn’t think about it.

“But what I know now is that when you’re over 70, you can apply for a mammogram on the NHS and you have to have one every year. If you’re a woman over 70, apply your mammogram. The reason I had an easy time this time and the last one is because it was caught very early.”

Deirdre is facing breast cancer for the second time. In a candid statement last September, she expressed concern about the public’s perception of the disease: “I think people panic about the word cancer often, and they can be afraid to even go to the doctor with their initial concern because they are terrified of getting a diagnosis, even though getting a diagnosis is what gets us into treatment. We can be so afraid of that word, so I’m so happy to do it in the light and caring, they’ve been so lovely, it’s very reassuring.”
