Officials did not say how many residents were evacuated. A roughly two-inch gas line ruptured in the Walnut Creek neighborhood, the fire department said.

KRON4 was on the scene. As of 10 p.m., the scene was cleared and a PG&E truck remained in the area. The smell of gas was still evident in the area.

No other information was immediately available.
