Everything Douglas Henshall has done since leaving Shetland | TV & Radio | Showbiz and TV

Douglas Henshall may no longer be Shetland’s leading man as DI Jimmy Perez, but fans remain curious about what he’s been up to and what he has in store.

More than two years ago, DI Jimmy Perez (played by Douglas Henshall) had his swan song in the unforgettable BBC One drama Shetland.

He makes a noble sacrifice to help an innocent man and resigns from the police force and leaves the area for good with his new love Meg (Lucianne McEvoy) to start anew elsewhere.

And while the show is still thriving, now under Ashley Jensen’s director Ruth Calder, longtime fans can’t help but wonder what Henshall has been up to since his departure.

Douglas Henshall’s career in Shetland

Almost a year after leaving Shetland, the Scottish actor continued to star in the film Netflix the thriller Who Is Erin Carter?, starring wealthy Daniel Lang, who is interested in professor Erin Collantes (Evin Ahmad).

He then took on a very different role in BBC A drama Murder Is Easy, based on Agatha Christie’s novel of the same name.

The 58-year-old, who starred alongside David Jonsson, Morfydd Clark and Penelope Wilton, was behind Major Horton in the show.

He is described as a “typical Englishman” of the 1950s who is “initially cold” in his demeanor but “is interested in other places and people”.

After the success of the two parts, Henshall again moved on to another mystery drama, but this time set in modern times.

He appeared as a character named Petur in the Icelandic Paramount+ thriller The Darkness.

The synopsis for the six-episode series reads: “A dedicated female investigator is forced into early retirement and tackles one last cold case centered on a young Russian asylum seeker who mysteriously died the year before.”

And according to Henshall’s IMDb page, he already has another show in the works, which is now in post-production.

The former Shetland actor will star in the horror series One Of Us, where “members of a family begin to die one by one at a funeral as Youngest searches for the stranger in their midst.”

There are a number of familiar faces alongside Henshall starring in the upcoming mystery series, including Netflix Heartstopper actor Nick Nelson, Kit Connor.

They will be joined by Love Actually and Strangers star Sienna Guillory, Catch Me A Killer’s Charlotte Hope and The Durrells’ Callum Woodhouse.

As of now, it is not known when One Of Us will make its debut.

Season nine of Shetland premieres on Wednesday 6 November at 9pm BBC One.
