Chinese scientists say they have made the convergent energy beam weapon a reality

A new type of high-power microwave weapon, which combines electromagnetic waves with ultra-precise timing technology to increase output power to attack a single target, has been developed by the Chinese. scientists.
The weapon system, which has completed experimental tests on its potential military use, consists of several microwave transmitting vehicles deployed at different locations. They then emit microwaves that can coalesce into a powerful energy beam to attack a target.
This is similar to the Death Star seen in Star Wars movie. To accumulate the energy needed to destroy a planet, the vast space station converged eight laser beams into a single beam.

This idea was considered difficult to bring to life because the electromagnetic waves from different transmission platforms must arrive at the same location at the same time and in the same form to achieve an effective combination of power.

According to the research team’s calculations, this requires each microwave vehicle be deployed with a positional error of only millimeters, and the time synchronization error between them cannot exceed 170 picoseconds, or trillionths of a second, which is more precise than the atomic clocks on GPS satellites.

Scientists and engineers have overcome these obstacles and built a system in western China consisting of seven transmission vehicles. Experiments have confirmed that the device can effectively suppress the signals of the US GPS and other satellites, “achieving several objectives such as teaching and training, verification of new technologies and military exercises”.

The researchers connected the timing devices on the transmission platforms with fiber optics to achieve “very high precision time synchronization”.
