Yuma County officials are searching for the man who damaged campaign signs with a vehicle, a machete

YUMA COUNTY, AZ (AZFamily) — Authorities in southern Arizona are searching for a suspect who has been seen in harmful video campaign billboards this week.

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office said it received several reports of a person vandalizing nearby signs East 40th Street and South Foothills Boulevard in Fortuna Foothills.

Several people reported a man ran over signs with a vehicle, kicking over signs and cutting signs with a machete, according to YCSO.

Deputies were unable to locate the suspect or a vehicle matching the witnesses’ descriptions.

Under Arizona state law, it is a Class 2 felony for anyone to “knowingly remove, alter, deface, or cover any political sign of any candidate for public office without authorization.”

The sheriff’s office is asking for help from anyone with information about the vehicle or suspect. Contact local law enforcement if political campaign signs are damaged or stolen.
