Jim Parsons is "Very Frank" He Hasn’t Watched the 2 Shows Sheldon Keeps Yapping about in The Big Bang Theory

Considering Jim Parsons’ career was dominated by his portrayal of Sheldon Cooper throughout the 2010s, comparisons between his The Big Bang Theory counterpart and himself were bound to happen. But opposed to his geek persona in the hit sitcom, Parsons confessed he doesn’t share many of Sheldon’s traits that make him a geek icon.

While the actor nailed Sheldon’s obsession with pop culture, in real life, Parsons and Sheldon’s interests couldn’t be more different.

In The Big Bang Theory, apart from pulling off his scientific shenanigans and pushing his friends to the edge, the character is also notable for displaying his geek knowledge. Being a fanatic of pop culture, the character was quite vocal about his love for Doctor Who and Star Trek. However, in reality, Jim Parsons has no interest in these two sci-fi juggernauts and pop culture in general.

I’m very frank about certain things, I get asked a lot of science things and I’m like, ‘You’re kidding’. And even the pop culture… I’ve never seen Star Trek. I don’t know Doctor Who.]

Although it’s a tough pill to swallow, given his TBBT counterpart’s obsession with the aforementioned shows, this further serves as a testament to the actor’s brilliance as Sheldon.

While the actor remains mixed about the prospect of playing Sheldon again, as he played the physicist in all 12 seasons of the sitcom and also served as the narrator on Young Sheldon, his costar has an opposing viewpoint. Kaley Cuoco, whose career skyrocketed following her portrayal of Penny in the Chuck Lorre-led show, expressed that she is open to the idea of reprising her role.

She told People:

I spent 12 years playing that role, and it really set off my career. I owe a lot to that character, to that show, to [creator] Chuck Lorre. It was some of the best years of my life, and some of the most fun I’ve ever had. I would absolutely reprise that role. 100%. I love that character, and I always will.

On top of not sharing Sheldon’s love for pop culture, the Home star also admitted to not being a genius like the TBBT character, even though Parsons clarified he isn’t exactly stupid.

The Big Bang Theory is available to stream on Max.
