Busy night for firefighters on the Yorkshire coast

The Fire and Rescue Service were called to incidents in Filey, Scarborough and Egton last night.

Firefighters on the Yorkshire Coast had a busy night shift on Wednesday 16 October, responding to a number of incidents in Filey, Scarborough, Whitby and Egton.

Filey

  • Filey firefighters responded to two incidents in the town. The first call came in at 6.20pm to reports of a fire at a residential property. Fortunately, the fire was already extinguished when the team arrived, and the incident was left in the hands of the police.
  • Later that night at 00:29, crews from Filey and Scarborough responded to a fire in a bedroom at a residential property. The fire, which involved a mattress and duvet, was also out on arrival. Firefighters dampened the area and isolated the electricity to the property. Two victims were taken into the care of ambulance crews for precautionary checks for smoke inhalation.

Scarborough

  • At 7:07 p.m., crews in Scarborough responded to reports of debris falling from a roof. After inspecting the property, advice was given to the occupants.
  • Crews from Scarborough also assisted colleagues from Filey to deal with the house fire at 00:29.

Egton

  • Crews from Whitby attended a fuel leak from a vehicle in Egton at 7.32pm. Firefighters shut down the leak and notified the owner of the vehicle, who was arranging for the recovery.

Fire crews from across North Yorkshire, including Filey, Scarborough, Malton, Knaresborough, Thirsk, York, Acomb, Ripon, Bedale and Harrogate also responded to numerous automatic fire alarms, which turned out to be false alarms.
