Sven-Goran Eriksson was known for his illustrious football career as a manager, but he also made headlines due to his high-profile love affairs.

The Swedish former England manager died in August aged 76 after a battle with terminal pancreatic cancer. Two months after his death, Sven’s final autobiography, The Beautiful Game, is released on October 17.

In a moving farewell, Sven appeared in a documentary on Prime Video chronicling his remarkable journey through life’s ups and downs, broadcast just a week before his death.

Sven’s tenure with England’s ‘Golden Generation’ not only showcased his managerial prowess, but also saw the spotlight shine on his eventful personal life.

His romance with celebrity barrister Nancy Dell’Olio attracted a lot of attention, alongside links with high-profile figures such as TV presenter Ulrika Jonsson and FA secretary Faria Alam.

In the revealing documentary, Sven bravely declared: “Sex is one of the good things in life for all of us. She wasn’t married. I wasn’t married. I was probably stupid, but I don’t think I did anything criminal. . I didn’t really bother anyone.”

During his illustrious career, where he won 18 trophies in charge of the club, Sven’s romantic escapades were in the spotlight as much as his professional achievements.

His first marriage was to Ann-Christine Pettersson in 1977. After welcoming two children, they divorced in 1994. Four years later, he introduced Italian lawyer Nancy Dell’Olio, 63 , and they began a relationship soon after.

Appointed manager of the Three Lions in January 2001, Sven and Nancy’s relationship was plagued by rumors of infidelity as he was reportedly romantically involved with TV presenter Ulrika Jonsson.

As whispers of infidelity swirled, Nancy flatly denied them, claiming the pair were “closer” than ever and predicted Sven would clear up any rumours.

Addressing the headlines, Nancy confidently claimed: “We’ve talked a lot over the last few days and a lot of rubbish has been written. Sven will talk and dismiss it all,” adding: “It’s all a publicity stunt for her.”

However, the saga escalated when Ulrika publicly hit back as she declared: “Sven is behaving like a liar. He promised me he was done with Nancy, but then he takes her out to dinner and he doesn’t even call.”

According to Ulrika’s nanny, she reportedly caught the Gladiators host and Sven in bed, a claim Sven later acknowledged in his 2013 memoir.

Speaking about their fling, she wrote: “It wasn’t until we met at some sort of event in Manchester that something romantic happened. I was there with some people from the FA. For some reason the Ulrika was also invited. We met at the hotel the night before and ended up spending the night together.”

Sven remembered that Ulrika told him that she was writing a book about her life, but she insisted that it would not be in it.

He added: “After that, Ulrika and I met when we could. Not every day, but every now and then. It got worse and worse. Nancy didn’t suspect anything. She was traveling a lot in Italy during that time “.

The affair lasted four months. In the Prime documentary, Nancy spoke about her decision to initially continue her relationship with Sven, even after she found out about his affair.

She declared: “We were Sven and Nancy from the first date. I was the first lady of English football and there would never be another after that.

“After Sven’s first scandal, I wanted to leave him. I didn’t want to admit to myself that there was a possibility that I was wrong. That I left everything for him. My lawyers told him to give him a another opportunity but think what you can get out of it.”

Less than two years after his first romantic scandal, Sven was embroiled in another love triangle involving 58-year-old Football Federation secretary Faria Alam.

Faria, a former model originally from Pakistan, had also been romantically linked with FA chief executive Mark Palios. The media frenzy surrounding the scandal eventually led to Faria resigning from his role as personal assistant to FA chief executive David Davies.

Despite revealing intimate details about their relationship to the public, Sven bore no ill will towards his former lover. He said: “She had been hung out to dry and lost her job, so why not make money from the ordeal?”

His relationship with long-term partner Nancy ended in 2007, with Sven later admitting he was unprepared for the extent of public scrutiny surrounding his private life.

“I thought I was ready for England, but I wasn’t ready for things outside of football, my private life,” he said. “I’m not very proud that fans could name three of my ex-girlfriends.

“I don’t think it damaged my football results. But my image outside of football did damage me, yes. My private life was not very private in England.”

Sven continued: “In 2002, when there was talk of a woman, well a Swedish woman (Jonsson), I asked myself what I should say to the players. It had nothing to do with football.

“But I was their manager and we were going to a World Cup. I told them ‘sorry’ but one of the players stood up and said: ‘Boss, welcome to England’. That was it.

Sven also had a salacious incident from his past come back to haunt him when an uncensored version of his 2013 autobiography surfaced in Norway. It included a shocking revelation about a fling with a married woman that ended abruptly when her husband walked in.

He wrote: “She hadn’t said anything about having a husband, but suddenly the door opened and there was an old man who said, ‘Who the hell are you?’ I said, “I’d better go,” and he said, “I think it’s probably for the best.”

“She said her name was Yaniseth and she worked as a dancer in a restaurant and nightclub not far away,” she recalled. “She invited me to come and see her when she danced.”

The following Christmas, Yaniseth, who at the time had a five-year-old son, visited Sweden and stayed with Sven at his home to spend a family Christmas with his children.

They spent a few quiet days in Sweden, living in a majestic property near Sven’s birthplace in Sunne, Varmland. Yaniseth, 54, nursed Sven until she sadly passed away earlier this year.
