The Department of Justice will monitor voter compliance in South Carolina on Election Day

COLUMBIA, SC (WCBD) – The U.S. Department of Justice will monitor polls in 27 states, including South Carolina, for the Nov. 5 general election, the agency announced Friday.

The department will monitor polls in 86 jurisdictions, including Charleston County, to ensure compliance with federal voting rights law coordinated by DOJ’s Civil Rights Division.

Election workers are expected to liaise with state and local election officials throughout November 5th.

“Complaints about any interruptions at a polling station should always be reported to local election officials (including polling station officials). Complaints of violence, threats of violence or intimidation at a polling place should be reported immediately to local law enforcement by calling 911,” the department explained. “These complaints should also be reported to the department after local authorities have been contacted.”

You can also file complaints with the Civil Rights Division at or by phone at 800-253-3931.
