‘RHONY’ Fans Slam Brynn Whitfield For Calling Ubah Hassan An ‘Angry Black Woman’

Brynn Whitfield is getting backlash for calling her “Real Housewives of New York” co-star Ubah Hassan “an angry black woman” on last week’s episode.

Whitfield, 38, confirmed that he made the comment during an off-camera conversation with Hassan, specifically saying, “I don’t want you to come off like that, like an angry black woman.”

She was worried that if Hassan appeared to represent himself this way, her investment banker lover, Oliver Dachsel, would not want to marry her.

“I told her I said, ‘I want you to marry Oliver. I want Oliver to want to marry you,’” Whitfield said.

They each recalled their side of the story to the Bravo cameras after getting into a heated debate during the girls’ trip to the Hamptons.

Whitfield addressed the situation on her Instagram story on Friday and insisted her comments about Hassan, 41, and interactions with her “were sent out of context”.

“To see my intentions twisted and my words twisted, it totally freaks me out,” she remarked.

She went on to claim that the episode was edited to make it seem like she single-handedly brought up the “angry black woman” stereotype, which she said was not the case.

“The truth is that the ‘angry black woman’ was raised by Ubah last year in Anguilla,” Bravolebrity claimed.

“To see my intentions twisted and my words misrepresented scares the hell out of me,” she said in her lengthy statement.

“In a very charged fourth wall moment in Anguilla, after the incident with Erin’s sunglasses, Ubah spoke directly into the camera: ‘Don’t you dare edit me to look like an angry black woman.’

“After Anguilla, Ubah and I frequently discussed this damaging stereotype at length,” she continued. “As a biracial woman, I will never know what it’s like to fully walk in Ubah’s shoes.”

“That night off camera in the Hamptons, we both talked honestly about our fears and triggers — like we always do,” Whitfield continued, referring to last week’s episode.

“We hugged, said we loved each other and promised to do everything in our power to help each other.”

Whitfield said she wasn’t sure what “changed after that emotional moment” to cause such upset, but apologized for any hurt she caused.

“I’m deeply sorry if I overstepped that night in the Hamptons,” she added. “I am beyond sorry as this was never my intention.”

Whitfield shared the lengthy statement after numerous fans took to social media to address her “unbearable” behavior..

“Bryn is starting to rub me the wrong way, mostly saying that ubah doesn’t have to be an angry black woman because she wants her (white) boyfriend to marry her,” one fan RECORDED.

“To say her man won’t marry her is diabolical and projection at its best,” one fan wrote. Danielle Levitt/Bravo

“Ubah actually behaved aggressively but to say that her man will not marry her is diabolical and projection to the max. Brynn has daddy issues!” another written.

“Ubah should have shot his ass,” another boldly suggested. “Brynn has more than one place and choose your words correctly.”

“And what is her business with Ubah’s relationship, acting strangely.”

“Brynn being a biracial woman policing Ubah’s ‘blackness’ just shows how uncomfortable she is with her African American side,” another upset viewer he commented.

A fifth fan asked“How did it go from enjoyable last season to so terrifying this season?”

“To single out the only black girl in the group and say she shouldn’t take part in normal housewives activities because her white boyfriend won’t find her attractive is so absurdly racist I’m shocked she said it with an honest face.” another stunned onlooker he wrote.

Page Six has reached out to representatives for both Whitfield and Hassan, as well as Bravo, for comment.
