Two of Georgia’s top election officials, both Republicans, have called a video circulating on social media this week “fake” and a “blatant lie.”

“No responsible person would retweet this ridiculously obvious lie and misinformation. Those who do so act to further the efforts of America’s enemies and undermine our nation’s security. The judgment of those who share this should be questioned in all things,” the Georgia election official wrote Gabriel Sterling Thursday.

Sterling shared a post from the RNC national committeewoman Amy Kremer which spread the video purporting to show Haitian migrants claiming to have illegally voted for Vice President Kamala Harris.

Secretary of State of Georgia Brad Raffensperger (R) also released a statement about the clip on Thursday. “Earlier today, our office learned that a video purporting to show a Haitian immigrant with multiple IDs from Georgia claiming to have voted multiple times. This is false and is an example of the targeted misinformation we have seen in this and other elections,” Raffensperger wrote, adding:

It is likely that foreign interference will seek to sow discord and chaos in the run-up to the 2024 presidential election. We are working to combat this and identify its source with our state and federal partners. CISA is currently investigating. In the meantime, we ask Elon Musk and driving other social media platforms to eliminate this. This is patently false and part of a disinformation effort. It is probably a production of Russian troll farms. As Americans, we cannot let our enemies use lies to divide us and undermine our faith in our institutions—or in each other.

American secret service officials confirmed on Friday that the clip originated in Russia. The FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency (CISA) said the intelligence community “assesses that Russian influence actors made a recent video that falsely depicted people claiming to be from Haiti and voting illegally in several Georgia counties “.

“This Russian activity is part of a broader effort by Moscow to raise unsubstantiated questions about the integrity of US elections and sow divisions among Americans,” the statement said.

The former president Donald Trump and his allies have long claimed baselessly that he lost the 2020 election due to voter fraud, despite dozens of court cases and election audits that found the election fair. trump card began to claim that the 2024 election would also be rigged against him should he lose.
