5 face charges in fatal shooting at Elbert Co. party

ELBERT COUNTY, GA (WSPA) – Five people are now facing charges in connection with a fatal shooting at an Elbert County high school after party.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said five people in Anderson County have been charged with murder and gang violations, including a person who has been arrested in the middle of October.

Destanne Mathis, 20, and Aanidras Parks, 18, were arrested on October 28, while Jerimiyah Hughes, 19, and Desmond Latimer, 18, were were arrested on October 30. Jarquavious Scott, 18, was arrested on October 17.

All five are charged with murder and violating the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act. Scott and Parks each face four counts of aggravated assault and one count of aggravated battery, while Hughes was charged with three counts of aggravated assault and aggravated battery.

The The shooting happened on Saturday, October 12 at a homecoming party on Evergreen Drive near Elberton just before midnight.

Bry’shun Treviyus O’Brian Jordan, 15, a student at Hart Academy in Hart County, was killed in the shooting.

Four other people were shot while three others were injured in the shooting.

All five suspects were booked into the Elbert County Jail.

The GBI said the investigation into the shooting remains active and ongoing and anyone with information should contact the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office at 706-283-2421 or the GBI Athens Regional Investigations Office at 706-552-2309.
