Saoirse Ronan is a woman who has come out of rehab in her hometown of Scotland’s Orkney Islands in the new film The Outrunin theaters now.

Ronan told ABC Audio that her character, Rona, stayed with her long after the film was shot.

“I think just the experience of making the film is one I’ll never forget. It’s given me a lot of life experience,” Ronan said. “It’s been a real gift of a project.”

She expressed it The Outrun has turned the usual addiction story on its head.

“This is based on someone’s real life and there are so many young women who are affected by addiction. But I think unfortunately, somewhat tragically, we’ve become somewhat desensitized to seeing male addicts and particularly male alcoholics on screen and in the media,” said Ronan.

“It’s become the norm in a very sad way,” he continued. “To take this addiction, this mental illness and give it a form that we don’t see as much, and it wakes us up a little bit as a viewer, I think that’s what made the effect of the film even more. powerful”.

Ronan pointed out that addiction does not discriminate between the young, the elderly, people of any gender, socio-economic background or race.

“We wanted to open up this story to everyone to reflect the reality of this particular issue, which just affects so many different types of people,” Ronan said.
