According to Cameron, the applause got to his head before fight night, causing Whittaker to overlook him.

“I don’t want to be critical of the lad but it wasn’t nice all fight week,” Cameron told talkSPORT.

“I saw him at the airport and I nodded to him, because I’m a gentleman and I thought I’d be fine, we hadn’t gotten to the fight yet.

“And it completely blew me away. They were all wearing T-shirts that said, ‘Bag Season.’

“He took off my clothes, my nose. Obviously I don’t have money at the moment, well, I didn’t have any, and he has all this Louis V.

“And he was talking bad to me. I thought, ‘You know what? I’m going to look for you.

“I’m going to keep calm and show you in this ring.”

The fight ended in strange circumstances when both men packed themselves over the top rope in the fifth round.

While Cameron was able to get back to his feet, Whittaker stayed down, holding his right leg.

The Olympic silver medalist was deemed unable to continue and the fight went to a split technical decision draw, although Cameron insists Whittaker was looking for a way out.

“He gave it 100 percent. Of course he did,” Cameron added before news broke that Whittaker had sprained his ankle during the fall.

“I was pushing him, but I thought, ‘I’m not going to give it my all yet.’

“I’m going to break his heart. I’m going to break this kid’s heart and show him that this is professional boxing.”

“And I just thought, ‘I’m going to climb, I’m going to do it.’ From the second round, I was breathing really hard.

“He spit out his gum guard, he was constantly grabbing me, blowing me low.

“And he basically dragged me into the ropes. You can see him turn his head back.

“And why I went, (it was) because he grabbed me, you know what I mean? And he went around my neck.

“He was exhausted. I hit him with a body shot before that happened. And I could feel it really took everything out of him.

“And his shots were so forced that he had to put everything into his shots in the last round. I was exhausted, I was really surprised at how easy it was.”

After the fight, Cameron signed a long-term deal with Frank Warren and is now hoping to get a rematch with Whittaker.

“Ben Whittaker is in a really bad position because he has to fight me again. And he can’t beat me. There’s no way around that,” Cameron continued.

“He can’t beat me. There’s no way on this planet Earth he could ever beat me.

“Ben needs the bounce back. I can go down different paths obviously with Frank Warren backing me up.

“He needs that rematch. There’s no way out. The fans will demand it.

“Well, her fans and stuff and the internet, you know how it is, it can be a horrible place. All of her fans have turned around and given me love and support.”
