A source told The Sun: “Mason has grown up a lot in the last couple of years, especially since becoming a father.

“He and Harriet are enjoying life away from the intense limelight that comes with being a United player and are much more settled off the pitch, which means he can concentrate on his football.”

Charges against Greenwood were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service following the “withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light”.

Last month, Pablo Longoria, the president of Marseille, stated that it was the desire of the coach Roberto De Zerbi to sign Greenwood.

The Italian conveyed his desire to come in at forward during his first conversation with the board after being appointed their manager in June.

Greenwood had been on the lookout for a new club after it was decided he would leave Manchester United, where he had spent years as an academy prospect before graduating to the first team.

He made 129 appearances for United, scoring 35 goals before joining Marseille for £30million in the summer.

The former England international has not played for Man United since January 2022 and spent last season on loan at Getafe, scoring 10 goals and registering six assists en route to being named the club’s player of the season.

His potential move to France sparked a backlash from livid Marseille fans, who launched a #GreenwoodNotWelcome campaign when he was initially linked with the club.

Marseille mayor Benoit Payan also opposed the move, saying he would pressure club president Pablo Longoria to overturn the deal.

Greenwood, however, received a warm welcome from fans when he arrived for his medical on Wednesday. Fans greeted the striker with flares and chants of his name as he greeted them at the airport.

His former club confirmed the news on Thursday, sharing a short statement in which they wished their former academy graduate “all the best in his future career”.

Representatives for Greenwood have been approached for comment.
