The bats are moving into a new barn built after the A30 upgrade in Cornwall

National Highways senior project manager Neil Winter said he was “proud” of the work to protect and improve the ecology and environment around the 8.7 mile (14 km) stretch of the new road.

“This includes bat mitigation, wildlife fencing, Cornish hedging and heather relocation, and we are currently forecasting a net gain of more than 20% in biodiversity,” he said.

The new motorway opened in June, but the wider scheme continues with ancillary and finishing works.

As part of the license conditions for the project, monitoring of all environmental measures, including the bat barn, will continue until 2032.
