Cenla breaks the early voting record

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) – Louisiana’s early voting numbers are back in, and turnout for the 2024 presidential election is breaking statewide records.

Between October 18 and 29, nearly 800,000 voters cast their ballots early, which is nearly 32,000 more early votes than in the 2020 presidential race between Donald Trump and Joe Biden.

Louisiana Secretary of State Nancy Landry said she was “thrilled to see so many Louisianans have already made their voices heard in this election.”

In central Louisiana turnout was also high, with 88,000 votes cast.

KALB took to the streets to talk to residents about how important voting is to the community and the country.

“I’ve seen more people and I’ve heard more people talking about going to the polls and that it’s important for us to vote,” said Erin Edwards, a Cenla resident. “We are the voice of the vote.”

“Voting is very important legislatively as well as civically,” said another Cenla resident, Brian Turner. “The people came before me to win this right, as well as the military who fought for this right. I believe that voting gives the American public a chance not only to have a voice, but to exercise a right that some before us have fought for.”

Chuck Toney, a Vietnam veteran, suggested voters do research on the candidates they choose.

“So I understood as a human being, I have to look politically at who is going to preserve that constitution and look at it as a road map to the future. And so, my thinking is, are we following the constitution? I would hope so.”

The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Friday, November 1 by 4:30 p.m., and the deadline to return an absentee ballot is Monday, November 4 at the same time.

Please note that offices are closed on Sundays.
