Colonie Police: Saratoga man charged with bank robbery | News

COLONIE – A Saratoga man was charged Wednesday in connection with a bank robbery, police said.

His arrest led the department to commend police K-9 Eddie for helping them catch the suspect.

Arrested was Christian M. Aquino, 18, of Saratoga. He was charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree theft, felonies.

The incident happened just after 4 p.m. Wednesday when police received a lockout alarm from Trustco Bank at 1 Johnson Road in Latham, police said.

Bank personnel immediately called 911 and reported that a suspect entered the bank wearing a mask, pointed a gun at the teller and demanded an undisclosed amount of cash. The staff then complied, police said.

The suspect then fled the scene with the money and attempted to escape through an adjoining neighborhood, police said.

Witnesses in the area provided continuous updates on the suspect’s movements, and officers soon located Aquino in a nearby wooded area, police said.

Aquino was arrested without incident and in possession of the stolen money, police said.

The firearm displayed was determined to be an airsoft pellet gun, police said.

Police thanked bank staff for following protocol and community members for the real-time information they provided.

The police also recognized their drone unit and Colonie Police Kp Eddie for their contributions.

“Eddie successfully pursued Mr. Aquino throughout the area, located him in a concealed position and ensured that he was taken into custody without harming anyone involved,” police said in a statement.

Aquino was tried and ordered detained.
