Thane: In a shocking incident, a teenage girl allegedly consumed poison after being scolded by her mother for spending too much time on her mobile phone.

The girl was 15 years old and lived in Ambernath area. After being scolded by her mother for being on the phone, she consumed rat poison on September 26.

She was immediately taken to a local hospital. When her condition turned critical, she was shifted to a hospital in neighboring Mumbai where she died on October 2, an official at the Ambernath police station said, according to PTI.

According to the medical report, the police registered a case of accidental death on Saturday.

According to police officers, the number of suicides is related to the mobile phone phone addiction among minors has increased in the recent past.

Earlier, a 14-year-old boy in Indore had allegedly consumed poison after his family members scolded him for excessive use of mobile phone in December last year.

Mohit (14), a resident of Annapurna police station limits, allegedly consumed poison two weeks ago after his parents scolded him for being glued to his mobile phone. “He died in a hospital during treatment on Monday,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Abhinay Vishwakarma said.
