Congressman calls Harris’ ’60 Minutes’ interview ‘biggest scandal in broadcast history’

Rep. Troy Nehls, R-Texas, took to X on Thursday to call Vice President Kamala Harris’ recent “60 Minutes” interview one of the biggest news scandals in history.

Harris sat down this week for an interview with CBS News’ “60 Minutes,” which former President Donald Trump’s campaign says was edited to make the vice president appear more well-spoken. One such edit appeared to make one of Harris’ responses sound more succinct, according to the campaign.

“Just imagine, 60 Minutes actually took Lyin’ Kamala’s answers and CHANGED THEM,” Trump said via Truth Social Wednesday. “It is unthinkable. They’re in big trouble!”

Deputy Nehls added to the clamor on Thursday, calling the alleged edition a scandal.

This is the biggest scandal in the history of broadcasting,” he wrote. “The dishonest media is the greatest threat to our country and the American people.”

Trump also echoed that sentiment on Thursday, calling the interview “the biggest fraud in the history of broadcasting.”

“TAKE OUT THE CBS LICENSE,” he demanded. “Electoral interference. She is an idiot, and the Fake News media wants to hide that fact. AN UNPRECEDENTED SCANDAL!!!”

Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, asked CBS to release his entire unedited interview with Harris.

If 60 Minutes had any integrity, they would publish the full, unedited interview,” he wrote. “The person who can’t answer basic national security questions wants to be our next president. Show us what he actually said, in full.”

“60 Minutes” did not respond to an inquiry from The National News Desk about whether it would comply with the senator’s request. The Harris campaign also did not immediately return a request for comment.

Trump was also offered an opportunity to speak to “60 Minutes,” which his campaign declined with “shifting explanations,” according to CBS.

“Trump has said his opponent doesn’t do interviews because she can’t handle them,” correspondent Scott Pelley said during the broadcast of Harris’ interview. “He had previously turned down another debate with Harris, so tonight may have been the biggest audience for the candidates between now and Election Day.”

The former president sat down for a heated interview with “60 Minutes” correspondent Lesley Stahl in 2020. The two argued over the factual integrity of his answers, prompting Trump to leave the interview prematurely.

“I think that’s enough of an interview,” Trump said to end the discussion. “That’s enough. Let’s go.”

Then-Vice President Mike Pence took Trump’s place. He defended Trump as “a man who speaks his mind.”
