Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway has opened up about the one habit her late husband Derek Draper didn’t like.

The couple had been married for almost 19 years before Derek’s tragic death earlier this year. Kate has been open about her struggle with vaping after giving up cigarettes when her son Billy was born in 2009.

Although she quit smoking completely after her stint on I’m A Celeb in 2019, she later found herself vaping again.

The 57-year-old shared her experience during a discussion on Good Morning Britain, which coincided with Keir Starmer’s announcement to ban the sale of single-use vapers next summer.

He told his co-hosts: “The last thing I want to do is any kind of sanction (vaping), because I’m not doing it now.

“But my experience was that after Billy was born, I smoked before and I wanted to smoke again, but I didn’t want to.

“I thought (vaping) was amazing because it didn’t smell, at that time you could do it anywhere, it must have been like smoking in the 70s, you didn’t have to stay outside.

“Everyone said it was better for you, and I felt so much better. I got the nicotine hit.”

Kate also admitted to using gum and spray to control her cravings, but recalled that last year she returned to smoking because of a segment on the ITV show.

She explained: “I think we had some props in here or something ridiculous, and I picked it up and I was instantly hooked, like beyond anything.

“I couldn’t believe it, and it made me realize, especially disposables, they’re so addictive.”

She then added that Derek “hated his” vaping habit, saying: “He hated smoking in all its forms, he said: ‘It took 200 years to find out that tobacco was bad for you, that’ll do you to hurt”.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
