Cooper Enterprises launches the Design Solutions Closet Organization System

SHELBY — There’s a new household name in the closets.

At least, Cooper Enterprises product manager Bryson Friebel hopes so. Cooper Enterprises officially launched its closet organization system in August at the International Lumber Show in Atlanta, Georgia.

“We are excited to enter the $60 billion cabinetry market with our new division, Design Solutions by Cooper, as part of our strategic plan,” said Mike Murray, president of Cooper Enterprises.

“We have positioned our cabinet system to perform well in the market by offering a modular design that is quick and easy to install. Our customers will receive a high quality product with color offerings that are the latest trends in world of design, at a reasonable price”.

It is the first residential product from Design Solutions by Cooper, a new line of residential products.

“We wanted a modular, user-friendly design so a customer can customize what they need in terms of height, accessories and more,” said Friebel.

Design Solutions offers three different heights within the wardrobe system, as well as hanging units, shoes and drawers.

“The owner should also be able to move things around, add or upgrade their systems later,” Friebel said. “And it’s very easy to install for professionals or even DIY customers.”

Cooper Enterprises began in 1965 as a contract manufacturer of lumber and laminated components. It has about 80 employees at its Shelby location. Cooper earned a 2021 Richland Area Chamber Economic Impact Award.

Business partners Walter Friebel, Gerald Friebel and Dan Cooper passed the business to Monty and Edward Friebel in 1998. Cooper began manufacturing components, parts and pieces and upgraded the machinery to begin assembly and rolling work.

“As time went on, we realized that one market we’re not in is the residential market, so we wanted to enter that market with an innovative idea like this,” said Jerry Truex, director of sales and Cooper Enterprises marketing.

Truex said prototypes and installations of Cooper’s Closet Systems began about two years ago.

“We installed it on a vacation property in Tennessee and the owners are very happy with the system,” he said. “The quality speaks for itself.”

Cooper cabinet systems available for residential and commercial customers

Cooper Enterprises has customers nationwide and a few international customers. Design Solutions by Cooper is starting to market its closet system locally, and Truex said the company plans to expand to larger cities and eventually nationwide.

Customers have the opportunity to use an online configurator that allows them to add measurements of their own space and choose between an entry or reach wardrobe system.

They can then choose the color of the cabinet body and drawers, as well as the custom heights of different components and accessories.

Design Solutions has partnered with contractors and distributors for the closet system. An owner can contact Cooper Enterprises for a list of local Design Solutions dealers if they wish to purchase the system themselves. Contractors can install the system professionally, or homeowners can try it themselves.

The quality thermally fused laminate (TFL) cabinet systems are available in five colors and feature a set of studs and fasteners that Truex said make assembly and installation easy.

“Solutions like this can help homeowners customize their spaces and stay within their budget,” he said.

Truex also noted that the locker systems are designed to be flexible.

“Let’s say you put it in the kids’ room and when they grow up and leave, you want to make a den out of it,” she said. “You can add drawers or move it into a pantry for food storage.”
