Tinubu asks Senate to confirm seven ministerial nominees

President Bola Tinubu has asked the senate to confirm seven new ministerial nominees.

Tinubu’s request was contained in a letter which was read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio in the chamber of the upper legislative chamber on Thursday.

Akpabio did not announce a fixed date for the confirmation hearing but said it would be held soon.

The president fired five ministers and appointed new ones in a cabinet reshuffle on Wednesday.

The new appointments were announced in a statement issued by the presidency after the meeting of the federal executive council (FEC).

Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu was appointed the state minister of foreign affairs and Jumoke Oduwole was assigned to the ministry of industry, trade and investment.

Nentawe Yilwatda was appointed to replace the suspended Betta Edu as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, while Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi was appointed as the new Minister of Labor and Employment.

While Idi Mukhtar Maiha was appointed Minister of Livestock Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata was appointed Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development.

Also, Tinubu approved the appointment of Suwaiba Said Ahmad as Minister of State, Education.

Meanwhile, Shehu Dikko was appointed the chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), which will now take over the functions of the now scrapped sports development ministry.

Those relieved of their duties were Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, Minister of Women’s Affairs; Lola Ade-John, Minister of Tourism; and Jamila Bio Ibrahim, Minister of Youth Development.

Others are that Tahir Mamman was also relieved of his duty as Minister of Education, while Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo was dismissed as Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development.
