There’s no shortage of fabulous food to enjoy all year round, but there’s just something about Christmas food that’s different, isn’t there?!

From turkey with all the trimmings to chocolate logs, gingerbread houses, panettone and decadent cheese boards, there’s plenty to get excited about.

But perhaps one of the best things we eat during the winter months is pigs in blankets. Such a simple thing, just pork wrapped in more pork, but they never fail to deliver.

And if you’re a big fan, we’ve got good news for you, as Iceland will make all your pigs-in-blanket dreams come true this Christmas.

The retailer has unveiled a whole range dedicated to the charcuterie plate, from standard blanketed pigs (£2.25 for a pack of 12) to a luxury blanketed pig inside a giant Yorkshire pudding ( £5).

If you like a big sausage, you can always up the size of your GDP with Iceland’s XXL Luxury Pigs in Blankets (£5 for a pack of 2). These bad boys caused quite a stir online when they first launched in 2023, with plenty of hints.

In response to a post about them on New Foods UK’s Facebook, a user named Soo Soo joked: “I’ve been told it’s not about size!” to which Jill Carrick replied that it was: ‘Girth dear…girth’.

And Donna Winterburn couldn’t help but ask, “What in the world is this massive Donkey Kong miss?!?”

There are also XL pigs with blankets, if the XXL ones are a bit too much of a mouthful, more Grinder pigs with blankets, and Hunters pigs with blankets.

For those who want something a little more substantial, Iceland also offers a range of pigs in blankets, including deluxe pigs in blankets carbonara, deluxe pigs in lasagna blankets and pigs in double cheeseburger blankets with melted cheese.

Not all of these are new products for 2024, with some of the items returning to Iceland’s shelves after being a hit last year. In 2023, @bigdaddybsfoods hailed the retailer as “pigs in blanket heaven” on TikTok and it looks like they’ll be giving the people what they want again this Christmas.

But it’s not just Iceland that has the goods. Other supermarkets also offer some fun festive twists on the popular sausage snack.

Take M&S for example, their new range includes mac and cheese blanketed pigs as well as hot honey blanketed halloumi pigs.

At Tesco you can buy pigs in blankets with flavour-coated peanuts, and Sainsbury’s has pigs in potato blankets, as well as pigs in blankets for dogs, so your pooch doesn’t have to miss out on the festive fun.

Heinz also recently caused a stir as they have launched new Beanz Pigs in Blankets (with Christmas seasoning). The product well and truly divided fans as some were willing to try it while others thought the cans sounded “worrying”.

turned on Reddit’s r/CasualUK forum the festive can of baked beans it was described as “maximum Britishness”.

In response to the post, u/fezzuk admitted, “Honestly, I’m tempted.” Like u/LoisTano, who thought beans would make a nice addition to her “post-Christmas sandwiches.”

u/dramallama-IDST posted: “Curiosity will get the better of me and I’ll try it at least once regardless of my expectations.” And u/TemptressAngel08 agreed that they “looked interesting.”

However, u/Disscopants180 wrote: “Heinz was so concerned about whether or not they could, that they didn’t stop to think about whether they should.” Likewise u/MrLuchador proclaimed: “Our science has gone too far.” And u/jaimeleblues added that they thought it sounded: ‘Unfortunate. Absolutely gross.

It’s not known how long the limited-edition product will last, but tins are on sale on the Heinz website for £2.50 for a 400g tin.
