Supreme Court slams probe plea into recusal of Karnataka High Court judge; allows withdrawal

During today’s hearing, the Supreme Court observed that the plea against the impeachment of Justice Nagaprasanna has been filed “obliquely” and questioned the motivations behind it.

“Judges are also that weak according to you? Can Lokayukta influence judicial outcomes? The brief has been filed obliquely, we are not sure about the motivations. If the judges stay up till 7pm, no it bothers you,” he added. Justice Oka said.

Justice Amanullah added that the Court was not prima facie satisfied with the grounds of the petition and said that he could not inquire into the discretion of the High Court judge.

“The entire judiciary of Karnataka will… Is it feasible? Prima facie we are not satisfied. You may have some lofty motives. We cannot probe the judge’s discretion,” he added. he said

Finally, the Court allowed the withdrawal of the plea, but made it clear that the petition contained several objectionable points. In addition, he clarified that he had not pronounced on whether it would be appropriate to establish any guidelines for recusal.
