The American airline has published its worst quarterly loss in four years, but hopes for the validation of a new social agreement, which will put an end to the costly strike that paralyzed two crucial factories from mid-September.

According to an AFP calculation, Boeing will post more than $31 million in net losses between the start of 2020 and September 2024.

Great day and surprise step for Boeing. The American aircraft manufacturer announced on Wednesday a net loss of 6.17 billion dollars, led by heavy charges of five billion in its Commercial Aviation (BCA) and Defense and Space (BDS) branches that it had unveiled on 12 October The Factset analyst consensus tabulated $6.12 million in losses.

“My mission is assez claire. Remettre ce grand navire dans la bonne direction et restaurer Boeing in its position as a leader that we know and that we want,” commented Kelly Ortberg, boss of the aircraft manufacturer since its debut in August.

According to an AFP calculation, Boeing has raised more than 31 billion dollars in net losses between the beginning of 2020 and the end of September 2024. Its most important quarter perteielle achieved 8.42 billion, in the fourth quarter of 2020.

By 14:20 GMT, Boeing shares were down 0.90% on the New York Stock Exchange. The BCA branch is suffering from a slowdown in production, in order to put in place quality improvement measures after several years of setbacks that culminated in an in-flight incident last January.

A costly disengagement

It also suffered the layoff of more than 33,000 workers around Seattle – where Boeing was born in July 1916 -, which paralyzed the group’s two main factories, producing the 737 (its best-selling plane), since September 13 777, the 767 and several military programs.

The branche locale du syndicat des machinistes (IAM) announced the same agreement in principle “worthy of consideration”. A première entente, announced on September 8, had been massively rejected by the unions, which had voted for an immediate strike.

The new draft agreement notably provides for a salary increase of 35% over four years (the IAM claimed 40%), the restoration of a revalued annual premium, an increased employer contribution to the retirement plan and an increased signature premium.

IAM members vote on Wednesday. The result is expected at night. If the draft agreement is ratified, work could resume on Friday.
