Agatha All Along confirms Rio’s identity as Marvel’s death

Even earlier Agatha All Along Debuted on Disney +, one of the main mysteries of the show has centered around Aubrey Plaza’s character, Rio Vidal. While the other witches that make up Agatha Harkness’ tag coven traversing The Witches’ Road are drawn from the pages of Marvel Comics, Rio didn’t seem to have any particular character correlation, until now. This week’s episode of the Marvel series finally revealed Rio’s true identity, but that revelation came with a heartbreaking twist as one of the witches fulfilled her destiny and finally found her full power . Warning: spoilers for Agatha All Along Episode 7 beyond this point.

This week’s episode pretty much reveals Rio’s identity in its very title: “Death’s Hand to Mine,” which means if you guessed that Rio Vidal was indeed death, you should give yourself a pat on the back Here’s how this revelation went down. The episode saw Agatha and Billy heading to the next trial inside a medieval-looking castle where they face a tarot-based trial. They soon realize they have to take a reading, and if they don’t get the reading right, swords will fall from the ceiling and impale them, or the leaf-filled ceiling will descend until they’re killed. At the same time, we find that both Lilia and Jen are alive, just down the road. The episode moves backwards and forwards non-linearly as we learn about Lilia. Lilia reveals that time is an illusion and that her whole life she has lived her life out of sequence, which explains her “battiness”. As he travels back and forth from his first magic lesson as a child centuries ago to the present, however, he realizes that not only is his true reason for being on the path to his end, but that the end is party of the trip

It is in this revelation for Lilia that we get the big reveal about Rio. A lucid Lilia connects all the little clues that have been given in the series so far and brings together that Rio is death, the “original green witch”. We even get to see Rio, briefly, in full regalia as Mort as he tells Lilia that all roads lead to her in the end. But this revelation isn’t the only big moment in the episode. Now that we know that Rio is death, it’s time for death to come for Lilia. Jen and Lilia catch up with Billy and Agatha and Lilia successfully takes a reading for herself and completes the test. The exit opens just as the Salem Seven show up and Lilia ushers everyone out before telling them she loved being a witch and closing the door. She stays behind. Alone with the Salem Seven, Lilia has one more card to play, so to speak. When the terrifying group arrives, she flips a card on the table—the Rook upright—and makes everything spin. The Salem Seven are sent “falling” into leaves protruding from the ceiling where they are impaled and die. Lilia hangs on as long as she can, but soon falls too, but welcomes her to her end, and the next thing we see of her, she’s back in Italy as a child and getting her lesson in magic again.

Although Lilia’s death is heartbreaking, there is also something beautiful about it. In a sense, for the witch of divination this is her “completion” of the path. Not only does she fully embrace her powers and herself, but she is able to light the way for Billy and the other witches who are still traveling and reunite with their old coven and, it could be argued that she is not really “dead” as Lilia says. time is an illusion. With that in mind, Lilia will always exist, perhaps somewhere else in the stream. As for the Rio reveal, well, we now know that Death walks the Road with the coven, and with only two episodes left and the mystery of whether Wanda Maximoff survived still to be solved, things could get very interesting next week .
