Today the UN commemorates the anniversary of its creation

The United Nations is commemorating the 79th anniversary of its creation, which began with the ratification of the United Nations Charter on 24 October 1945.

Celebrated annually, United Nations Day highlights the guiding principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter that have shaped global cooperation.

To mark the occasion, the United Nations in Pakistan will host a family-oriented public event at the Pakistan National Arts Council in Islamabad on Saturday. The event will highlight the deep historical ties between Pakistan and the UN, celebrating the contributions Pakistan has made to the world institution over the decades.

A ‘UN Market’ will showcase the work of twenty-three UN agencies operating in Pakistan, while a special exhibition will explore the shared history of the UN and Pakistan.

Pakistan is willing to cooperate with all member states of the UN: President Zardari

President Asif Ali Zardari says Pakistan is ready to cooperate with all member states of the United Nations to achieve a peaceful and prosperous world for all.

In his message on the occasion of United Nations Day today, he said that Pakistan has consistently upheld the principles of the United Nations Charter.

Asif Ali Zardari said Pakistan has also made invaluable contributions to international peace and security, including serving as a major military and police contributor to UN peacekeeping operations.

The president said the vision of universal peace in the United Nations Charter is currently threatened by flagrant violations of its principles in the occupied Palestinian territory and India’s illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
