Carol Vorderman opens up about ‘holding people accountable’ and ‘creating mischief’ on weekends after leaving her radio show

Carol Vorderman lifted the lid on how she has been “holding people to account” and “creating mischief” since stepping back from work, during an appearance on Heart Breakfast on Wednesday.

The 63-year-old presenter pulled out of her Sunday show on sister station Heart LBC earlier this month after experiencing “burnout” and ended up in hospital overnight.

He admitted he had worked too hard after repeatedly working seven days straight for several weeks and made the decision to step back, after having his own show on the station last year.

Carol chatted with hosts Amanda Holden and Jason King about what she’s been up to since then, both politically and in her personal life.

Amanda said, “We’re all excited about you coming, because we said this morning, right, how much we admire first of all, your work ethic and everything else, everything you’ve done as a business woman.

“But I also love your strong opinions. I love that you don’t care. I love it because it’s a rare quality in this safe age we live in.”

Jason said: “You get to a point where you’re like, ‘I don’t care!’

“Literally,” Carol replied, “well, you know, on the political side, I say I’ll say it.

“I’m going to hold you to account as much as I can, and it seems to have struck a chord, let’s just say.”

Addressing the issue of work, Jason asked the TV star: “I’m also right in thinking that you’ve started to say, ‘you know what, I’m also cutting back on the work a bit more?’

“Well, yes,” admitted Carol, “I used to work seven days a week. And at LBC, I miss them so much! My Sunday show at LBC, it was different!

“But I live in Bristol, so I travel to London and all that all the time, and I’d put it together on a Saturday because, you know, I like the data, I want evidence, I’m going to show that that’s what they’ve been doing, you know that I am preparing the preparation!

But what it means is that people say ‘oh you work weekends, you take Monday and Tuesday off’. Yes, that’s how it happened, no.

She added: “So it was constant and constant, constant. And then a month ago I had a little bit of chest tightness.

‘So he went to the hospital. And I had all the heart checks and all that, and no underlying problems. But I thought, you know what… I’ll be back in five days, yeah.

The presenter cheekily joked: “And I found out I can get up to a lot of mischief at the weekends! It’s wonderful!’

“Remember this is a family show,” Amanda laughed back.

Carol has been very open about the fact that she has five “special friends” with whom she is in relationships, although she has previously said that she “doesn’t do one-night stands”.

In an interview with You Magazine last year, the TV presenter said that everything works very well because he does not want to be in love and is not a jealous person.

Carol said that all of her lovers are single, and said that she wouldn’t mind if one of her lovers fell in love with someone else and moved on.

One thing that has certainly connected Carol with a younger generation is her attitude towards dating and her willingness to talk about it openly, if not in salacious detail.

“Oh yes, yes, my ‘special friends,'” she said. “I continue with this system and it is working very well.”

There are five of them. She said: “One has been friends for 11 years, one for seven. My kids (Katie, 33, and Cameron, 27), know most of them.”

Carol admitted she likes the independence and freedom the set-up gives her and says there’s no problem with her partners wanting more privacy than it offers, “as long as you’re honest and having a good time.”

After her recent health scare, Carol revealed she is doing “fine” but said she knows she needs to slow down for the sake of her health.

Speaking at the Cheltenham Literature Festival, he told The Mirror: “I’m very well, I had all the checks and everything, but I can’t work seven days a week anymore so I’m going to focus a lot on social media. more on the future instead of traveling to London all the time.

The former Countdown star added: “Now I turn off my phone for 12 hours a day. Like physically. It usually happens during the night hours.

“But it’s really good, you know when you have it next to the bed and you’re just snuggling in. I’m just going to look a little… Ahh, two hours later.

Carol informed her fans of her decision to leave her radio show earlier this month, telling her Instagram followers: “Hi, I have some news to share with you.

Carol was heartbroken to step back from her role at LBC as she said: “It hurts me to have to but I’ve decided not to continue with my Sunday show on @LBC.”

“After working seven day weeks for as long as I can remember, I finally got burned just over two weeks ago and ended up spending the night in the hospital.

“Fortunately, after many scans and checks, we know I have no underlying health problems.

“So, after a proper conversation with my family and friends, I’ve taken the health scare as a warning sign to slow down a bit and decided to reduce my work to weekdays for the time being.”

Carol was heartbroken to step back from her role at LBC as she continued: “It hurts me to have to but I’ve decided not to continue with my Sunday show on @LBC.

“I’m sick of having to make the decision as the show has been really lively and a total joy, with so many new callers from all over the country and a growing number of listeners.

“The good news is that I will still be part of the LBC family (they are a good family) from time to time, so stay tuned for more details.

“In the meantime, I’ll keep causing trouble and I’ll keep tuning into LBC too.”

Thanking fans and the LBC team for their support, he added: “Thank you again for your amazing support and to all my new friends at LBC – you’ve been amazing.

“I will continue to do a lot of mischief and call out corruption and wrongdoing, this is not stopping, but for now a slightly less frenetic chapter begins. I love you ❤️❤️.”
