ACC player dismissed from team due to previous game situation

On Wednesday, Virginia Tech announced that one of its basketball players has been dismissed from the program.

“Temple transfer guard Hysier Miller has been permanently released from the Virginia Tech men’s basketball program due to circumstances prior to his enrollment at Virginia Tech,” Virginia Tech said in a news release. “There will be no further comment from the university on this matter.”

Sports Illustrated reporter Pat Forde reported that this news was related to a situation last March in which Miller became involved in gambling while a member of the Temple basketball program.

In March, Forde reported on the situation.

“Gambling control firm US Integrity sent an alert to casinos Thursday about unusual betting activity at the UAB Blazers-Temple Owls men’s basketball game, the American Athletic Conference confirms. Sports Illustrated,” Forde said in an article in March. “The betting line moved significantly on Thursday leading up to the game. At one casino, the line went from UAB as a 1.5-point favorite over Temple earlier in the day to UAB as eight-point favorite at halftime, then pulled within seven. The Blazers defeated the Owls, 100–72, at Temple’s home gym, the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia.

Virginia Tech’s roster has taken two hits this offseason, as Jordan Ivy-Curry, who was committed to the Hokies, decommitted to UCF, and Miller is now off the team.
