Water crisis in Greater Noida: Ganga canal overflow causes supply stoppage | Noida News

Taps run dry in parts of Gr Noida as disinfection of Ganga canal begins

Noida: NICE officials visited Beta 1 sector on Wednesday to check valves and pipes after several sectors in Greater Noida, Greater Noida West, and parts of Noida and Ghaziabad complained of low water pressure and no water at all. Some high-rises in Noida have resorted to private tankers to make up for the supply shortage.
Ganga water supply will remain closed till October 31 due to the year desiccation from the top Ganga Canalwhich has been cited as one of the main reasons for the shortage. However, water pipe leaks and tube motor failures have worsened the water shortage situation
“There is no water pressure in Beta 1 since yesterday. How are we supposed to clean our houses and do other tasks before Diwali? Every year, the Authority increases the water bill. Still, it does not provide us with a regular and smooth supply of water,” said Harinder Bhati, a resident of Beta 1.
Water pressure improves within just a day or two after a complaint is made, Bhati added. “Most sectors of Greater Noida are facing water problems. If the situation does not improve, all residents will have to take action and close the Greater Noida Authority office,” said Bhati, who has written to the director general of GNIDA on the matter.
Taking cognizance of Bhati’s complaint, GNIDA CEO NG Ravi Kumar on Wednesday sent a team from the water department to Sector Beta 1. The team inspected the valves and pipeline in the sector, some of which Leaks have been found and the water issue has been resolved soon.
In Ghazaibad, water supply was disrupted in Nyay Khand 2 and 3, Abhay Khand 3, Gyan Khand, Vasundhara Sector 16 and Vaishali Sector 5 on Sunday.
Somendra Tomar, the junior engineer of the water department, assured to arrange alternative supply in the absence of Ganga water.
