During three days, the ministers of the Communauté économique des États de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (ECOWAS) examine the data collected to finalize a strategic reference document. The master plan will guide the implementation of the project that aims to electrify 20,000 villages by 2030. Most of the villages (14,042) will benefit from network extensions, while 1,249 will rely on external solar solutions network

The role of Togo in the electrification project of 20 villages in Afrique de l’Ouest

Togo foresees 700 villages in the framework of this initiative. This is a significant step forward for rural electrification, as the access rate in these areas is less than 10%. ECOWAS is committed to providing reliable and affordable electricity, and this project should touch nearly 180 million people in the sub-region.

Barros Bacar Banjai, resident representative of ECOWAS in Togo, emphasized that the current stage is crucial. The validation of the data will contribute to launching the efforts to obtain the financial and technical support of the international collaborators, thus guaranteeing the successful deployment of the project.

It should be noted that this initiative marks a crucial stage towards sustainable access to energy for all in West Africa.
