Do you hate vacationing in tourist spots? Try these “destination dupes”.

There are some holiday destinations that will always be popular: places like Bali and the Maldives offer plenty of sun and warmth (which many of us here in the UK are desperate for), while bustling cities like Tokyo and Rome are ideal for those looking for a little more adventure.

However, as so many people flock to these hotspots, they have become overcrowded, expensive to get to, and even when you do get there, everything is usually overpriced.

Lucky for us, Expedia has created a list of “detour destinations”, or as we like to call them, “dupe destinations”. These are affordable alternatives to doppelgänger locations where the places will have similar landmarks, architecture and cuisine, but your money will go much further and it will be less crowded than the original option.

According to the travel company, heading somewhere similar to a traditionally popular location was one of the biggest travel trends this year, and is expected to continue into 2025. Travelers can include destinations as extension of your trip or change them completely. as the main party.

So where should we book next year?…

Expedia’s list of Detour Destinations saw an increase in searches over the past year, with 63% of consumers saying they are likely to visit a Detour Destination on their next trip.

The travel trends report also revealed the shift in opinion towards all-inclusive holidays. Almost two-thirds of UK Gen Z travelers said they are considering booking an all-inclusive hotel stay in 2025 and 43% said an all-inclusive resort would be their preferred type of hotel.

While some of us might have thought all-inclusive stays were best left to young families, Gen Z believes they’re better money-savers, easier to book and less stressful.

So where are you going next year?
