‘Neglected’ road to be done this winter – news

A Ballina councilor said all regional roads are to be closed in winter by Mayo Council.

Welcoming the inclusion of the R315 road in Ballina Municipal District’s Multi-Year Strengthening Program 2025-2027, Cllr Michael Loftus said he will fight for the road to be included in the winter plan.

“The R315 has been neglected for the past five years,” he told a city council meeting last week. “Now I hope to fight for it to be included in the winter plan.”

Cllr John O’Hara agreed with Cllr Loftus and said the Atymass road leading to a very busy quarry should also be done.

Cllr Loftus added that all regional roads should be covered in the plan.

“I think there are 22 kilometers of regional roads not done in the county. That’s why we have to get the funding,” he said, adding that the council should thank the people who every winter do the operations of grain
